Treatment of Allergies With Acupuncture
Regular Acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas are an excellent natural alternative to western medications for the treatment of allergies.  A study in the Annals of Internal Medicine showed that Acupuncture reduces allergy symptoms.

Acute Symptoms -Stuffy Nose, Itchy Eyes:
During the allergy season, we use Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal formulas to alleviate acute symptoms by reducing inflammation, eliminating toxins.  There are several Chinese herbal formulas that will clear the nose quickly and keep inflammation down.   With proper diagnosis, the patient can keep these herbs on hand at all times to prevent allergic symptoms.

Chronic Condition:
When the symptoms have cleared, or after the pollen season, we focus on building up the immune system, nourishing the lung and kidney qi and building the qi of the spleen.  The idea is to treat the root cause of the problem and bring the body’s immune system back into balance.  Chinese herbs are very effective in building the body's ability to resist pathogens in the future.

Chinese Herbs:
There are 8-10 powerfully effective Chinese Herbal Formulas for the symptoms of Allergies and their causes.  One should always consult a Licensed Acupuncturist before taking herbs as the diagnosis of each individual and their symptoms is unique.

Treatment Protocol:
1-2 treatments a week during the acute stage of allergies followed by 1 treatment a week for 2 weeks.  After a series of treatments, most patients use an ongoing herbal formula to build their immune systems in this natural approach to treating allergies. We also prescribe an acute formula to have on hand during seasonal changes.  Treatments are recommended every few months as maintenance for good health.
